Council Libraries set to inspire again with Firstival 2025

Following the remarkable success of Firstival last year, the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters Libraries is pleased to host events as part of this accessible and inspiring festival in 2025.

This vibrant and inclusive celebration will take place in collaboration with South Australia's 130 public libraries, cementing its status as the most significant event in the annual library programming calendar.

Themed ‘a festival of new experiences’, Firstival 2025 promises to offer an even more diverse and engaging lineup of workshops, events and activities for all ages.

Inspiring curiosity and encouraging people to try something new and different, te festival delivers hands-on learning, creative exploration and community connection to residents and visitors alike.

Firstival was originally developed by Public Libraries SA with a clear set of objectives:

• to increase customer engagement with libraries,
• foster statewide collaboration,
• attract new members, and
• challenge outdated perceptions of what libraries are and who they serve.

With these goals in mind, the initiative has become a powerful vehicle for innovation and community outreach.

The standout aspect of Firstival is that it invites people to experience something new—whether it's a practical skill, cultural insight, or artistic expression.

The Council’s program features a wide range of activities, including a Kaurna language workshop that will provide a meaningful introduction to the language and culture of the traditional custodians of the Adelaide Plains.

Food enthusiasts can look forward to kombucha and sourdough making workshops, while budding artists will enjoy still life drawing sessions led by local creatives.

These events not only cater to a wide variety of interests but also reflect the evolving role of libraries in our communities.
