2008 Variety Bash SA Finish!
See James Blundell and Cat Southern performing live!
View the spectacular convoy of Variety Bash cars!
When: Saturday, 23 August 2008
Where: The Parade, Norwood
Time: 12.30pm to 4.30pm
Each year "Variety – The Children's Charity" holds its annual Variety Bash, an eight day event involving approximately 120 vehicles and 300 participants, who take part in what organisers call "a madcap event designed to put the fun into fundraising - not a race or rally, but a drive in the county with your mates".
The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters will host the finish of this year's event, particularly significant in 2008, as the Variety Bash celebrates its 20th Anniversary in South Australia! An estimated 10,000 onlookers are expected to gather along The Parade on Saturday 23 August for the official finish.
The Variety Bash commenced in SA in 1989 and since that time has raised in excess of $19 million, all of which has gone toward supporting sick, disabled and disadvantaged children under 18 years of age across our State. The Bash is the entrants reward for a year spent fundraising for these special children.
Arriving from 12.30pm onwards, the afternoon will provide a perfect opportunity to view the spectacular convoy of cars and to meet the 'colourful' crews involved in this major annual fundraising event. Variety Bash participating vehicles must be in standard condition and manufactured before 1970. The drivers and crews are anything but standard however, with most Bashers taking the one major rule (don't take it seriously) seriously.
The Finish will include an afternoon of entertainment featuring legendary singer/songwriter, James Blundell alongside up and coming country music star Cat Southern. James Blundell is one of Australia's most popular country music entertainers, having changed the face of country music in the late '90s with a number of successful albums credited with bringing country into the mainstream. James is about to re-enter the studio to record his 10th album, the follow-up to 2007's ARIA Nominated 'Ring Around The Moon' and was recently nominated for a 2008 APRA (Australian Performing Right Association) Award for his song 'Higher than Heaven'.
Cat Southern, the 26 year old singer/songwriter described as the 'rising star of Country Music' will also be performing. Originally from South Australia, but now based on the NSW Central Coast, Cat won the prestigious Toyota Starmaker Competition in 2006 and was nominated for 4 Golden Guitar awards in 2007. Her new single 'Little Miss Understood' is currently enjoying success on the mainstream charts, sung in her "new contemporary rock pop with country roots" style.
James and Cat, both VarietySA Ambassadors, are part of a packed program which includes children's entertainment, most notably the Funkees and the presentation of two Bash Awards, the Highest Fundraisers Trophy and the Outright Winners Trophy.
Did You Know? Variety started in Pittsburgh, USA on Christmas Eve 1928 when a group of vaudeville showmen in the Sheridan Theatre found an abandoned baby girl.
