To understand the atmosphere you'll enjoy at Pauls and the quality of the meal you will be presented, what better way than to read a review by acclaimed food critic from The Advertiser - Tony Love - who recently dined in our restaurant. Here are a few of his kind thoughts ...
" (...) No frills, no tricky menu or table waiting negotiations. No head-spinning wine lists.
Open the doors of Norwood's Paul's on Parade and all of this seems entirely possible. One of a small number of similar old school fish restaurants that still remain here and on Gouger St, run by Greek families for decades and barely changing tack in all that time, Paul's on Parade has an extraordinary history and a legion of loyal fans to go with it.
This weekend lunchtime the diners include many with their elderly parents, as well as younger children.
(...) Amazingly, the menu here hasn't changed, essentially, in the 15 years that the Varvounis family has owned Paul's on Parade.
(...) Prawn shaslick are large, juicy and brilliantly cooked. Just brilliantly. The fish choices for mains start with generic hake fillets, then head into local hero territory with garfish, snapper and King George whiting – crumbed, battered, and grilled.
(...) Clearly owner Nick Varvounis has figured there's a new and hungry generation of diners who get what Paul's can do, both with the seafood and the wine. It's a blast from the past and a nod to our excellent southern seas produce.
No frills, thank goodness."
